The document management system in Claromentis has always been functionally very strong – offering indexing of all application file content, version control, record types and many other business requirements.
Yesterday I was interested to see a more visual improvement in such a business focussed intranet application. The product has been enhanced so that icons can be thumbnail representations of the content of the file – so an image, or the first page of a presentation or document for example.
So here is the previous version of our document management system :
The new system presents the same files to the user like this:
This is a strong improvement – not just aesthetically – it amazes me how such a small thumbnail of a document can be enough to confirm that the file is the correct one – or indeed provide an indication of the content.
By using the power of our visual interfaces we can also rework the folders concept to crate a softer feel : so for example here is the same software presenting a staff handbook [actual files changed for confidentiality reasons]
An interesting example of a business focussed powerful intranet application like DMS being made visually stronger, with no real change in business logic.
